KAPELOU & BD Rowa™: a new level of order processing automation
On November 27-28, at the XXXIII All-Ukrainian Logistics Day & Distribution Master, we showcased warehouse robots.
Integrated with KAPELOU conveyor systems, they provide fully automated handling of small-item inventory.
Automated order processing – zero errors, zero manual involvement
We are the exclusive representative of BD Rowa™ in Ukraine. During the exhibition, we presented an automated product-handling technology built on robotic systems, already deployed across warehouses in more than 60 countries.
During the event, Yevhen Kulyk, Head of Integrated Solutions at KAPELOU, introduced the autonomous system’s key capabilities:
- autonomous replenishment, storage, piece picking, and packing of small-item goods;
- error minimization;
- improved workforce efficiency by eliminating manual repetitive tasks.
Yevhen Kulyk noted: “We’re showcasing a fully functional solution that’s already transforming warehouse logistics worldwide. This is a proven system that reduces the cost of small-item handling, eliminates human-factor impact on productivity, and ensures stable warehouse performance”.
Autonomous processing – for warehouses with medium and low SKU turnover
At the core of the technology is the Smart or Vmax (130, 160, 210) robot, integrated with KAPELOU conveyors and IT modules. The Easy Load module enables bulk-load replenishment: operators pour mixed small items into a chute, and the system automatically identifies each unit via machine vision and OCR, reads label data (lot, batch, expiration date), uploads it to the WMS, and sends items to storage. A patented V-shaped gripper ensures dense storage using adaptive cells. The robot picks up to 9 SKUs simultaneously and autonomously forms and packs each order with high precision. During idle time, it performs automatic defragmentation to optimize storage space before the next replenishment cycle.
Technical capabilities:
- handles SKUs up to 1.5 kg;
- operating depth up to 15 m; height up to 3.5 m;
- secondary loading conveyor for high inbound volumes;
- additional piece picking head to boost throughput;
- data backup in case of power outages;
- cooling module and air conditioning for temperature-controlled storage;
- integration with inventory management systems;
- automatic cleaning module;
- suitable for pharmaceutical, distribution, e-commerce, automotive, cosmetics, and beauty small sized products warehouses.
Small-sized product handling automation powered by IT modules
The robotic pick station operates within a fully autonomous small sized product handling ecosystem. To ensure full process control, we develop and deploy IT modules tailored to each warehouse’s operational needs:
- WCS – synchronized control of conveyors, AS/RS, and robotics for stable operations and precision;
- SCADA & HMI – real-time visualization and control of warehouse processes;
- automated workstations – access to data from multiple sources and simplified operator workflows for small pieces receiving, sorting, and picking.
Why automate small-item handling?
The autonomous small-item processing transforms warehouse workflows, eliminates bottlenecks, and improves overall efficiency:
- 99.9% accuracy in processing small-item SKUs with low and medium turnover;
- up to 60% storage space savings;
- high-quality handling of cylindrical and cuboid SKUs;
- continuous stock monitoring and inventory optimization;
- seamless integration into existing infrastructure with scalability options;
- controlled access to stored small pieces.
KAPELOU & BD Rowa™ – tackling the challenges of small-item logistics
BD Rowa™ is a German manufacturer with over 25 years of experience in automating storage, picking, and dispensing of small pieces. BD Rowa™ has installed more than 15,000 order picking systems globally – from pharmacies and hospitals to large pharma distribution centers. As part of Becton Dickinson, the company benefits from over $1 billion in annual R&D investment.
Together with a German manufacturer we combine the expertise to deliver automated small pieces storage and handling projects across multiple industries. Among our implementations are the autonomous small-item handling systems that automated order picking successfully at a leading pharma and medical retailer in Saudi Arabia and in a major pharmacy chain in Germany.
KAPELOU – your partner in automated robotic piece picking
As a manufacturer of automated systems and an integrator of end-to-end warehouse solutions, we design and deliver turnkey warehouse automation across Europe. Our technologies increase productivity, reduce operational costs, and decrease reliance on manual labor.
We extend our thanks to the organizers of the All-Ukrainian Logistics Day and to the visitors who joined us at the event.
