Warehouse Conveyor System in Egypt (MENA): Automated Pharma Sorting
Expanding its intralogistics expertise across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, KAPELOU completed a project for pharmaceutical warehouse automation in Egypt. The implemented project aligns directly with the national Egypt Vision 2030 strategy, driving large-scale infrastructure digitization and technological evolution.
Pharmaceutical warehouse operations in the MENA region demand uncompromising accuracy and strict regulatory compliance. KAPELOU was tasked with:
- automating tote transit between functional warehouse zones fully compliant with pharmaceutical standards and establishing a 7-direction sorting mechanism;
- maximizing picking precision while eliminating human error.
The case study centers on a high-capacity conveyor line designed for continuous, gentle handling of healthcare inventory. Roller and belt conveyor modules were specifically tailored for non-standard, heavy-duty totes (800×600 mm, weighing up to 60 kg). The conveyor line maintains structural integrity and smooth transit performance under intense daily workloads.
Deploying a multi-module conveyor line with a total footprint of over 360 meters enabled:
- seamless interconnection of core warehouse operational areas;
- precise material flow management;
- elimination of manual tote handling;
- reduced order processing time;
- reduced risk of damage to sensitive medical supplies.
The powered roller conveyor layout incorporates dynamic curves and merging modules, significantly speeding up sorting and order consolidation. Thanks to ZPA (Zero Pressure Accumulation) logic, the conveyor system in a pharmaceutical warehouse allows totes to travel continuously and safely without physical contact – an essential feature for fragile medical packaging.
Transportation, picking, and sorting routines operate under the control of the KAPELOU WXS low-code platform. As part of this advanced warehouse automation in MENA, the software handles integration with the customer’s WMS and ensures the precise routing of totes to designated destination points.
As part of this advanced warehouse automation in MENA, integrated routing via WCS provides real-time tracking of every single container. The implemented project prevents mis-sorting, protects serial numbers, and maintains batch and expiration data during sorting and consolidation – meeting critical international GDP (Good Distribution Practice) guidelines.

Project Outcomes
This application of automation in a pharmaceutical warehouse in the Middle East delivered the following key operational metrics:
- 1,500 totes/hour: stable sorting throughput without additional headcount;
- drastic reduction in picking and dispatch errors;
- strict GDP compliance throughout the operational workflow;
- Goods-to-Person integration: significant reduction in operator physical workload and travel time.
This case study reinforces KAPELOU’s position in the MENA market, placing Egypt on the growing map where KAPELOU software and hardware drive high-performance intralogistics. Our engineering expertise enables tailor-made automated systems compliant with global regulatory standards and adapted to localized market demands.
